SmartMusic 2012 Released with New Vocal and Sight-Reading Technology

New vocal exercises and methods in SmartMusic 2012.

I’m delighted to announce that SmartMusic 2012 was released this morning. This is a huge release for vocal students and teachers, as it expands SmartMusic’s ability to assess and document student performances to vocal students.

It also provides new features designed to improve sight singing, and vocal-specific repertorie additions including exercises (Building Beautiful Voices and SmartMusic Vocal Exercises) and methods (Sing at First Sight, Level 1; Patterns of Sound; and 90 Days to Sight Reading Success).

The sight singing aspect is particularly exciting. When students press “Start take” on a sight-singing piece they can listen to “Prep notes” to establish tonality and find their starting pitch, and they receive time to study the music before they must start to sing. Educators have several options in determining what prep notes and how much study time students are given.

Also in SmartMusic 2012 are new sight-reading features for instrumentalists, new visual count-off and other ease-of-use improvements, easier setup on school networks, and more.

SmartMusic 2012 is a free download for all current SmartMusic subscribers.

Just wondering if SmartMusic 2012 will require an upgrade to Finale 2012 when the Finale upgrade is released in order to use Finale exports with the SmartMusic assessment feature?

I'd love to see if you could work it out to add Bruce Phelp's Sight Reading Method, as his method is used by a large number of schools in Minnesota, which is also the home state of MakeMusic.

Hi Dave,

Shortly after the release of Finale 2012 we’ll provide a free downloadable patch to SmartMusic that will add the ability to import accompaniments made in Finale 2012.

Please let me know if questions remain.
